Good solid substantial luggage is a must for the modern traveller. While hard moulded plastic, or Samsonite, case provide extra security, they can also be heavy. Lightweight soft luggage is also available - easy to handle & carry. Ideally (& I mention this as a tour leader) luggae should also have wheels, now an important accessory for the long hikes between terminals at airports where luggage trolleys must be paid for - when they are available!!
